As much as we say that we understand cat owners who have outdoor cats, there is a place where we draw the line. We understand that some cats are happier outside, especially ones who have come from the outdoors, who are used to running and hunting and being wild. But cats like this… ragdoll cats who keep getting injured while outside, who are clearly being neglected by their owners even when they are home, who are left to roam outside, looking for warm places to be, because it is bellow zero… that is not an outdoor cat. That is a cat who doesn't have anyone caring for them properly.

We wonder, in situations like this, if the owners of the cat would even realize that she is gone, if you simply decided to take her one day. We know you wouldn't. We know that stealing a cat from your neighbors is not something that someone as kind as you would do, but we wonder… If you did do it, would they know? Do they know when their cat comes in and out of the house? Do they know when their cat is injured and in need of help? We hope that this situation works out with you keeping the cat for good, one way or another, because she is clearly much better off with you.

Neighbor's neglected "outdoor" ragdoll cat keeps begging woman to take adopt her, the woman worries about retaliation: 'I don't want to take someone's pet, [but] it seems I'm the only one paying attention to her needs'
Some cats are not meant to be outdoor cats, no matter how much they would like to be.
We understand that some cats need to be outdoors for their well-being. Those are cats who have been stray cats their whole lives, who feel confined and stressed when they are indoors all the time. We get it. We do. We understand that not all cats transition from being outdoor to indoor cats easily. And we think that this is a decision that has to be made for each cat like that individually and under the consultation of a good vet. Generally, we think that senior cats should be indoors, even if they had spent most of their lives outside, and that, of course, indoor cats cannot just be thrown out one day and expected to smoothly become outdoor cats.
And then there are ragdoll cats. Some cat breeds do not do well with being outside because of their breed. Ragdoll cats specifically are softer, more trusting, don't have the best survival instincts, and their furs are not very well-suited for life outside. So, it's no surprise that this one started looking for a safer place to stay, especially during the cold winter, and it is not surprising that the person she has chosen is now considering simply adopting her.
